PLAYER INFO.
✖ Character Name: Jack
✖ Canon: Mass Effect Series — Canon point is Mass Effect 3, shortly after Grissom Academy is evacuated.
✖ Character Appearance: here
✖ Character Age: Unknown, but certainly in her mid-twenties at least.
✖ Pick A Number: 403, 882
✖ Canon Setting:
The world of Mass Effect is one in the distant future, where a truly intergalactic society has risen up, with humanity being amongst the "last" intelligent species to discover devices left in the galaxy from an ancient society that allow interstellar travel called Mass Relays. The effective "capitol" of the galaxies who have discovered and been able to implement this technology is a massive space station called the Citadel, and serves as the meeting and mixing point of intelligent species of the galaxy. These galaxies are headed by a Council who oversees diplomacy and negotiations for their homeworld. At the beginning of Mass Effect, the Citadel Council has representatives from only three races—Turians, Asari, and Salarians, though through the events of the game, humanity also is able to join the Council. These four races form the major intergalactic powers, though many other races are present in the galaxy, such as the jellyfish-like Hanar or the aggressive, bloodthirsty Krogan. There are political pressures amongst each of the races, since all of them have histories dating back centuries, but for the most part (before the events of the game), these races live in relative peace.
In terms of what's relevant to Jack, it's also important to note one large organization in particular called Cerebus. Cerebus is a giant, para-military organization headed by a person only known as The Illusive Man. They are classified as terrorists by the Citadel Council, and are generally concerned with the betterment of humanity in the galaxy, even at any expense to other races or human lives. Cerebus is known as being particular ruthless and underhanded in their methods, and for Jack in particular, she was imprisoned as a child to be used in a project to engineer a powerful human biotic, with Jack being the result, and at the cost of many other childrens' lives. They're known for their ruthless methods, and for obvious reasons, are a particularly sore spot for Jack.
In terms of how the world of Mass Effect has changed over the course of the games, each game is distinguished by a race that threatens the peace and safety of the whole galaxy, causing these races to (sometimes) put aside their differences and fight together. While each threat is a different, the appearance of each is tied to a powerful race of intelligent machines called the Reapers. The Reapers are high-technology creatures, and claim to oversee the effective "cycle" of sentient life in the universe. The cycle goes that they allow sentient beings to discover and implement their technology, then hibernate for 50,000 years before reemerging to conduct a purge. While the Reapers' purge technically begins with Mass Effect 1, by Jack's canonpoint, the Reapers have truly begun their purge and have started to wipe out sentient planets. The universe is uniting to fight back, though the odds seem quite stacked against sentient life with how powerful the Reapers are.
Oh course, this is a very condensed version of the world of Mass Effect, since it's, uh, a pretty huge universe with lots of lore! But while politics and invasions play a huge role in the overall story of Mass Effect, they're not quite as relevant for Jack. It's not that she doesn't care about what's happening, but Jack's interests are largely self-serving, or at least serving the very small amount of people she cares for. Jack has lived a life in experimentation, traveling the galaxy, and then frozen in cryo, so the larger events of the universe aren't quite as important to her, haha.
✖ Character History: A Wiki! Also, since Bioware is a game where the player's choices heavily shape the story, the major choices for Jack's history are laid out here.
✖ Character Personality: This section should give us a solid view of who your character is and what they're like. As with the setting, this section may be as long or as short as you want to make it.
✖ Character Powers:
Jack is a very powerful biotic, which is a person that is able to create, manipulate, and control mass effect fields. What mass effect fields are is technically complicated and is heavy in series jargon, so for that, I just give a wiki link with more about those, but for the purpose of this section, biotic abilities are easily compared to psychic abilities, and include being able to lift and throw objects, create barriers, and even weaken armor. For Jack in particular, her abilities are divided into four primary areas:Shockwave : "Topple a row of enemies with this cascading shockwave." A field is generated and expanded quickly to blow enemies back.In addition, it's also worth noting that Jack is an exceptional biotic, since she was experimented on and enhanced from a young age to become the most powerful human biotic there is. This means that her mass effect fields tend to be stronger, have a wider range, and are generally more powerful than most other biotics. Humans don't have as high of an aptitude to biotic powers as other intergalactic species, but Jack is said to be more inline with the species that have a natural talent for biotics, such as Asari.
Pull: "Yank an opponent helplessly off the ground." Enemies are lifted off he ground and placed in a sort of weightless stasis where they're vulnerable.
Warp: "Rip your enemy apart at a molecular level." Exactly what it sounds like in this case. Enemies seem to explode/dissolve.
Warp Ammo: "Blast vulnerable opponents already lifted by biotics for a damage bonus, and weaken the armor of grounded targets." This one is more of a percentage/game mechanic thing, but based on other ammo powers, it seems like this creates a field around ammunition that is able to pierce armor more effectively, especially when an enemy is already trapped in a biotic's field.
CHARACTER SAMPLES.
✖ First Person POV: from the test drive!
✖ Third Person POV: Write us, in prose or brackets, how your character is recruited by the CDC. If your application is accepted, this section of your app will become part of your character's game canon.
CHARACTER ITEMS.
✖ Pick a Team: Green, without a doubt. Jack is a fighter, haha.
✖ Mission Freebie: The destruction of Cerberus, a powerful organization, and the one responsible for experimenting on Jack.
✖ Personal Item or Weapon: One Venom Shotgun
✖ Character Inventory:1. The outfit shown in the Character Appearance Section
2. Her biotic amp, shown on her ear here
3. An omni-tool, which is a multipurpose holographic tech item, shown here as the object over her arm. Jack will not be able to fight with her omni-tool, but instead just use its general functions such as a flashlight, scanner, communication device (though useless since she won't have anyone else to communicate with).
